Overview
When creating or editing a schedule in ProjectTeam.com, users have access to a variety of Gantt chart options to customize and control how their project timeline is managed and displayed. This page outlines available options such as configuring working days, setting auto scheduling rules, showing the critical path, and importing or exporting schedule data. These tools help ensure your schedule reflects real project conditions and supports effective planning and collaboration.
Gantt Chart Options
Note: Only the creator of a schedule can configure Gantt chart options such as working days and auto scheduling rules.
However, non-creators can still view the critical path and export the schedule if needed.
For all Gantt Chart options, select the Fullscreen/Edit Gantt button above the schedule.
From select the Gantt Chart Options button in the top right-hand corner to reveal all of the Gantt Chart Options below.
Configure Working Days
ProjectTeam.com allows schedule creators to define the working days and holidays for each schedule. Configuring working days ensures that the timeline accurately reflects your project's real-world calendar. Non-working days are visually shaded in gray on the Gantt chart and are excluded from task duration calculations, helping to avoid misalignment between planned and actual workdays. Adjusting these settings helps keep your schedule realistic and aligned with your team’s availability.
Configure Auto-Scheduling Rule
In ProjectTeam.com, Auto-Scheduling is a feature that controls how changes to one task affect other tasks it’s connected to through dependencies.
By default, Auto-Scheduling is ON, meaning that if you adjust the start or finish date of a task, all dependent tasks will automatically shift to maintain their logical relationships (e.g., finish-to-start). This helps keep your timeline consistent and reduces the need for manual updates.
When Auto-Scheduling is OFF, changes to a task do not affect its dependent tasks. This gives you more manual control over the schedule but may require additional adjustments to maintain proper sequencing and logic between tasks.
Show Critical Path
The Show Critical Path option in ProjectTeam.com highlights the sequence of tasks that directly impact the project's completion date. When enabled, these tasks are visually marked on the Gantt chart to help you identify which activities have no flexibility and must stay on schedule.
A critical path is a chain of dependent tasks that cannot be delayed without delaying the entire project. It also represents the shortest possible duration to complete the project. A task is considered critical if it has zero slack—meaning any delay in that task will immediately delay the overall project.
Understanding the critical path helps project teams focus their attention on high-risk tasks and better manage project timelines. For a deeper look at how critical path is calculated, see the Critical Path Logic section. Slack time refers to the amount of time a task can be delayed without impacting other tasks or the project’s end date.
When the critical path is showing, the option in the dropdown will change to "Hide Critical Path". Clicking the option will turn off the red highlights on the Gantt chart area.
Import Options
ProjectTeam.com supports importing schedules from popular tools such as Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, and Microsoft Excel to help you get started quickly or migrate existing project timelines into the system.
Supported file types include:
-
Microsoft Excel:
.xlsx
-
Microsoft Project:
.mpp
and.xml
-
Primavera P6:
.xer
and.xml
Caution: Please review imported tasks carefully, as some data may be lost or altered during the translation process from your original file.
It's important to confirm that task relationships, durations, and other key details are correct after import to ensure schedule accuracy.
Export Options
ProjectTeam.com allows you to export your schedules for sharing, reporting, or use in other project management tools. Exporting helps ensure flexibility and collaboration with teams using different systems.
Supported export file types include:
-
PDF: For generating printable or shareable versions of your Gantt chart
-
Microsoft Project:
.xml
-
Primavera P6:
.xml
-
Microsoft Excel:
.xlsx
These options let you preserve key schedule information such as task names, dates, durations, and dependencies.
Caution: Exported files follow standard formatting for compatibility, but we recommend reviewing the output in the target application to confirm all data has been captured as expected.
Baselines
The Baseline in the Gantt Chart will add a line under each task, to show the original dates of that task. If a task is moved ahead or behind schedule, the baseline will remain, to show how far ahead or behind the task is from the original/baseline dates. To add a baseline, select the Baselines button on the top of the schedule. From there click Create New, and type in a baseline name. You will need to select the Baselines dropdown menu again and select the newly added baseline. Once you have selected the new baseline, you will see the gray lines under each task on the schedule.
Scale
The Scale button within the Schedule feature, gives different options on how to view the Gantt. These options include; Daily, Weekly, Monthly, and Yearly. Below are the options for Daily and Monthly.
